Abstract:
The “Step and Repeat” cycles are variable and highly dynamic generative works that can be performed live with laptops and/or in automated modules prepared for both web delivery and installation on site specific location or gallery-museum space. The media resources are mixed, filtered, and emitted via live (real-time) custom performance software deriving image, video, qtvr, audio, and net streams from databases and databanks resident on local and networked laptops and servers. |
| Concept
and Development:
Currently, much of the studio work seeks to mediate experiences that traverse both digital and analog worlds in an attempt to reflect upon transactions and/or distortions that are being ‘digitally filtered’ and how one identifies with these continually evolving conditions. The intent is to formulate a constructive discourse involving the ethos that governs our con temporal existence. The interest in using new media, networks, databases and visualization strategies stems from a continual fascination with localizing these digital and analogue experiences, the blurring of boundaries between their dual-existence and how our lives, environments and cultures are continually being shaped and redefined by the use of technology.
Each cycle is programmed and performs prescripted, automated, generative operations (passes) upon loose narrative schemes based on what are usaually broad themes i.e.: urban landscape, mobility and locative media, shifting economies, citizenship and democracy, hertzian space, sonification, etc. |
